Education is the best investment: it does not depreciate even in the long term, it pays dividends in the form of salaries, it is capitalised on in the form of opening up new paths and opportunities and, moreover, no one can expropriate it. The only liability would be to follow the same strategy with our children, but being creative that liability could be considered as one more intangible to be valued in the future.

My father, an engineer who had become the representative of Spain in the UNITED NATIONS, was a good and very wise man. From a very young age, he always told my brothers and me that education was the best inheritance he could leave us. No matter how much effort had to be made. In fact, in my house most of the income went to our education. He also stressed that it was his duty as a father. So did my mother. A huge lesson that I follow myself.

The financial analyst that I am today would have congratulated you and confirmed that education is indeed the best investment: it does not depreciate even in the long term, it pays dividends in the form of salaries, it is capitalised in the form of opening up new paths and opportunities and, moreover, no one can expropriate it. Another great asset to thank them for is that I was educated from the age of 5 "in English" at the BRITISH COUNCIL SCHOOL in Madrid. The preposition "in" is important, because this inclusion has allowed me to understand globalization, to teach in different parts of the world and to always relate to people from different cultures.

My greatest pride is having given the first MASTER'S IN FINANCE at the MYANMAR INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS, in BURMA, commanded by the UNIVERSIDAD DE  ALCALÁ DE HENARES (MADRID) where I had graduated in ECONOMICS.

 

Before coming to finance my passion was sport and thanks to it I acquired some tools that would be essential to be able to carry out, in a better way, my professional work: I learned to fight, to play in a team and, something that would always be essential: to know how to lose and win.

My older brother has also always been a reference, and when I chose ECONOMIC it was, in a way, in his wake. Thanks to him I learned about the eclectic nature of this subject (numbers, law, economic theory...) and already in my career I chose finance when I discovered what the financial system meant.

Afterwards, I did a MASTER'S degree at CUNEF (COLEGIO UNIVERSITARIO DE ESTUDIOS FINANCIEROS) in MADRID, specializing in Business Administration and Management, Economics, Law and Finance, which encouraged me and brought me closer to the business world and was an important lever in my profession.

When I presented my thesis, I knew the importance of communication. It is not only a matter of having the best knowledge but also of making it available in the best way, and that is why I took a VOICE EDUCATION COURSE with ISABEL ALBAR. Always recommended, and not only because it was one of my best experiences (in fact, ISABEL ALBAR is now one of my best friends) but also because it gave me the technique and confidence to relate in public. Something essential when you have to conquer all kinds of forums or expose yourself to the media.

Then I started working at CAJA MADRID / BANKIA, and stayed there for 16 years. First as a Credit Risk Analyst in Corporate Banking and in BANKIA FONDOS & GESMADRID SGIIC, as an Investment Fund and Variable Income Pension Plan Manager achieving an excellent performance. I developed my own valuation models and managed the Spanish stock market, emerging markets, Latin America, global and emerging funds of funds, American and European stock markets, as well as managing stocks, ETFs, funds and derivatives. I am very lucky to be next to important masters, managing investment funds and pension plans in their management.

I also enjoyed a great challenge: Becoming CFA-CHARTERED FINANCIAL ANALYST. A certification from the CFA INSTITUTE (USA) as a Qualified Financial Analyst that is obtained after a long, demanding and rigorous process, where you are only admitted if you have a notable trajectory and if you adopt a code of ethics when acting.


I have always avoided getting stuck, and I have looked for new ways to find new experiences, so I voluntarily left the security of the bank to enter the financial world associated with the platforms.

At ESTRATEGIAS DE INVERSION, the leading independent portal in the market, with sell side, the part of the financial sector involved in the creation, promotion, analysis and sale of securities on the stock exchange.

With RESEARCHFY, located in London, where I am leading the implementation in Spain, we developed a digital distribution platform for Financial Research that empowers both research providers and investors by providing a more efficient, convenient and fairer business model thanks to the MiFID II regulation in Europe.

And in LIGNUM CAPITAL, an Equity Crowdfunding platform authorized by the CNMV that facilitates financing and allows investment in innovative projects in the seed phase, where I have worked as CIO-Investment Director, carrying out valuation and marketing of private capital.

I have also done consulting work on design and portfolio optimization projects for FINTUP.COM (Robo Advisor management company), in addition to being hired by MOODY'S INVESTOR SERVICES for the commercial execution of investment banking for GREAT WALL ASSET MANAGEMENT (a Chinese institutional client), and I am currently preparing the IPO of a construction company.

I am an expert in financial markets and company valuation, mastering technical and fundamental analysis, with knowledge and use of the financial information tools of BLOOMBERG, REUTERS and FACTSET.

Education is a road without end, you never finish studying and learning, and to complete this immersion in new technologies, I am currently working on a PhD in ECONOMICS AND LEGAL SCIENCES at the UNIVERSIDAD CAMILO JOSÉ CELA in MADRID, investigating the profile of cryptomonies in portfolio management.

At the same time, I teach financial subjects at various business schools (including EAE, IEB, CUNEF, FEF and the UNIVERSIDAD DE ALCALA DE HENARES) and prepare others for the CFA program in Spain and abroad.

The world is changing and we have to adapt. If you don't change, you become obsolete. Adapt and specialize.

Globalization means competing globally and specialization allows for differentiation rather than becoming a commodity.

Life, and its ways, are like a tree. As you walk, they branch out and new routes appear.

Being a teacher leads you to know other people who work as a sensei, and also the students, who can become allies or senseis themselves.


This is how I met my MIGUEL MARTIN, student and later partner in AFR INVESTING, through which we provide private banking services, financial consultancy and training, as well as wealth management advice for people with HNWI and UHNWI (high purchasing power) in Africa, thanks to the international knowledge in the main asset management companies and the local African presence.

When I left the traditional and conservative Spanish bank, who would have told me a few years ago that my life would lead me to set up a financial consultancy firm in Sao Tome and Principe or run a platform for analysis and distribution of stock market research in London?

Today the convergence is in the Canary Islands, a diamond, unpolished, of attraction for companies where Europe, Latin America and Africa converge, geographical areas where I carry out my business activity.

 

The paths should not be taken alone but as a team, complementing profiles and fighting to get an idea off the ground.

In SENSEI we form a great team where every day I learn from great people and professionals, led by EDUARDO MEDINA, a very young professional, so young that he had to be emancipated before being an adult, and before a notary, to be able to constitute a company. And he is not the only one in the group. The passion and dedication in what one believes in is the basis that unites us, and for that it does not matter the age.

The best sensei is life itself and our experience, and if I had to define it again to my parents I would say that both have their upward tendencies and corrections (which shows you who you can trust and who your true friends are) so time is the best teacher. The best letter of introduction is the credibility of having an ethic in your professional practice and seeking the benefit of the client before your own, the best way to be very profitable in the long run.


I always like to remember a Hindu proverb that says "With my teachers I have learned a lot; with my colleagues, more; with my students, even more".
